Marco Silva comments on Leeds United and issues a clear Premier League warning.

The gap between the Championship and Premier League appears to be growing each year.

Marco Silva has expressed concern that Leeds United may struggle to stay in the Premier League next season, warning that the gap between the top flight and the Championship is “definitely getting bigger.”

Leeds secured promotion on Easter Monday with a dominant win over Stoke City, followed by celebrations sparked by Sheffield United’s loss to Burnley. Burnley’s win also confirmed their return to the Premier League. However, Silva pointed out that newly-promoted teams have had a tough time adjusting. This season, all three promoted clubs are on track to be relegated again — a worrying trend.

Speaking ahead of Fulham’s match against already-relegated Southampton, Silva acknowledged Leeds’ strong history and loyal fanbase, but emphasized how difficult it has become for promoted sides to survive.

He added that while clubs like Leeds carry legacy and quality, the Premier League has grown more competitive. He referenced how rare it is for all promoted teams — like Fulham, Bournemouth, and Nottingham Forest three seasons ago — to remain in the top flight and perform well.

According to Silva, this increasing divide is making it harder for Championship clubs to establish themselves in the Premier League.
