Shaken Up: Eagles Unveil Trio of Bold Changes for Round 7

Hawthorn has announced three changes to its line-up for its first appearance at Marvel Stadium this year. The Hawks are set to face West Coast on Sunday at 4.45pm AEST, and they will do so with a refreshed squad. Coach Sam Mitchell confirmed during his Friday morning press conference that young midfielder Henry Hustwaite has earned a call-up after an outstanding start to the VFL season, where he averaged an impressive 34.3 disposals across his first three games with Box Hill.

Joining Hustwaite in the senior side is Bailey Macdonald, who returns for his first AFL match since 2023. Macdonald has been in strong form at VFL level, showing plenty of run and energy off half-back, and is now poised to inject that same excitement into Hawthorn’s defensive setup. Completing the trio of inclusions is Jack Ginnivan, who has been recalled following a standout performance for Box Hill, where he booted four goals and collected 22 disposals in a dominant Easter Sunday win over Geelong.

In terms of departures, Conor Nash is unavailable due to suspension, having received a four-match ban earlier in the week. Veteran Luke Breust has been managed for this match, while Changkuoth Jiath has been omitted from the squad.

Hawthorn’s Executive General Manager of Football, Rob McCartney, praised the incoming players, highlighting their recent efforts. He noted that Hustwaite had worked diligently during the off-season to expand his midfield skills and had consistently performed at VFL level, making his selection well deserved. McCartney also commended Ginnivan’s strong presence both on and off the field during his time with Box Hill and expressed confidence in his return to AFL action. As for Macdonald, McCartney acknowledged that the young defender was coming off arguably his best VFL performance, and he looked forward to seeing his pace and rebounding ability boost the Hawks on Sunday.
