RB Leipzig are unlikely to pursue Oliver Glasner this summer due to the high cost Crystal Palace has set for their manager.
According to BILD, while Glasner remains a serious name on Leipzig’s shortlist following Marco Rose’s dismissal, the financial barrier is significant. Palace reportedly rejected an €18 million approach from Bayern Munich last year, quoting a staggering €80 million price for the Austrian coach.
Leipzig’s managerial search is being led by sporting director Marcel Schäfer in close coordination with Jurgen Klopp, who oversees global soccer for Red Bull, and technical director Mario Gomez. Glasner is among several candidates being considered.
However, Glasner is said to be “very happy” in England and has no current intention of leaving. Reports of a secret meeting between him and Leipzig officials were denied outright by Schäfer.
Although there are claims Glasner now has a release clause in his contract, no specific amount has been confirmed. Even if it’s lower than €80 million, the cost — combined with the challenge of luring him away from the Premier League — makes the move unlikely.
This update should offer relief to Crystal Palace fans, who may be growing anxious amid speculation about Leipzig’s interest. For now, Glasner appears set to continue his promising project at Selhurst Park.
