Leeds United’s frustrations from their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday could soon deepen, as the club now faces an investigation by the Football Association. Despite completely dominating the match at Elland Road, Leeds were left empty-handed after failing to make the most of their chances and committing costly defensive errors.
Tottenham, who never seemed in full control of the contest regardless of Thomas Frank’s claims, managed to snatch all three points. But beyond the result, it was the scenes that followed Tottenham’s second goal that have attracted unwanted attention. The FA has now stepped in to probe the conduct of Leeds supporters during the game.
The trouble began when Tottenham forward Mohammed Kudus celebrated his winning goal in front of the South Stand. A bottle was reportedly thrown in his direction, sparking outrage and condemnation. Pedro Porro later claimed that more objects were hurled toward him and his teammates from the stands. Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett has already called for Leeds to face disciplinary action over the incident.
According to a report from the Daily Mail via MOT Leeds News, the FA has officially launched an investigation into the Elland Road crowd’s behaviour. Should Leeds be found guilty, the club could face a substantial fine and be required to identify those responsible. Any fans found guilty of throwing objects are expected to receive lifetime bans from attending Leeds matches.
The episode has placed Leeds United under further scrutiny at a time when they were already reeling from a painful defeat — one that could now carry serious off-field repercussions as well.
