On Tuesday, the New York Mets honored former player Octavio Dotel, who tragically died when the roof of a nightclub in the Dominican Republic collapsed. Before their game against the Miami Marlins, the team held a moment of silence for Dotel, who made his MLB debut with the Mets in 1999. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza expressed his condolences, acknowledging the strong Dominican presence in the baseball world and sending prayers to the affected families.
The Houston Astros, where Dotel spent much of his career, also shared their sorrow, remembering his significant contributions to the team. Dotel, who was known for his durability, posted a 2.15 ERA over 159 appearances in 2002-03, ranking among the best in the Majors. He was one of at least 44 victims of the tragic nightclub collapse, with around 100 people still trapped under the rubble. Dotel, who was pulled from the wreckage, sadly passed away while being transported to the hospital.
The Texas Rangers are back in action against the Chicago Cubs on April 8, 2025, with Patrick Corbin starting for the Rangers and Jameson Taillon taking the mound for the Cubs. Despite the chilly conditions in Chicago, where temperatures hover in the 30s, the Rangers are ready for another showdown. Josh Jung makes his return to the lineup at third base, while Jake Burger takes a break for the day.
With the game scheduled for a 6:40 p.m. Central start, the Rangers are stepping into the contest as +135 underdogs. Here’s the full lineup for the game: Semien at second, Seager at shortstop, Langford in left, Pederson as the designated hitter, García in right, Smith at first, Jung at third, Heim catching, and Taveras in center.
Stoke City’s hopes of a crucial win were dashed once again in heart-wrenching fashion, as a 90th-minute equaliser from Luton Town saw them settle for a 1-1 draw at the bet365 Stadium. In a game loaded with tension and high stakes, Lewis Baker’s deflected free-kick gave Stoke the lead late on, only for the familiar sting of stoppage-time heartbreak to strike. It’s the third time in just six matches that the Potters have let vital points slip away in the dying moments — a trend that now threatens to drag them deeper into the relegation mire with just five games remaining.
“Clean sheets are a point of pride, but they’re only possible because of the commitment from the lads in front of me,” said Anthony Patterson after securing his 50th shutout in Sunderland colours.
The 24-year-old stopper was instrumental in the 1-0 win over West Brom, delivering key saves to maintain the lead handed to the Black Cats by Trai Hume’s stunning free kick.
Now with 13 clean sheets this season, Patterson’s return to form could prove crucial as Sunderland gear up for a late push in the Championship promotion race.
