On Tuesday, the New York Mets honored former player Octavio Dotel, who tragically died when the roof of a nightclub in the Dominican Republic collapsed. Before their game against the Miami Marlins, the team held a moment of silence for Dotel, who made his MLB debut with the Mets in 1999. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza expressed his condolences, acknowledging the strong Dominican presence in the baseball world and sending prayers to the affected families.

The Houston Astros, where Dotel spent much of his career, also shared their sorrow, remembering his significant contributions to the team. Dotel, who was known for his durability, posted a 2.15 ERA over 159 appearances in 2002-03, ranking among the best in the Majors. He was one of at least 44 victims of the tragic nightclub collapse, with around 100 people still trapped under the rubble.
