Player of the Year

When Rangers last won the league, almost any player in the starting XI could have been named player of the year. The team’s success was built on a collective effort, with even underappreciated players like Ianis Hagi contributing significantly. The defense, which set a record, went largely unrecognized, despite the vital roles of players like Connor Goldson. Fast forward to the current squad, and Nicolas Raskin is the only standout performer, with young Hamza Igamane showing promise for the future.

However, John Souttar, despite winning the John Greig achievement award, has drawn heavy criticism for his recent performances. Craig Moore didn’t hold back, describing Souttar’s display against St Mirren as “really poor” and emphasizing that even in games with little at stake, playing for Rangers means always being at your best. Moore’s frustration highlights a larger issue within the squad—aside from Raskin, no player has been consistent enough to challenge for player of the year. Rangers need multiple standout players to compete at the top level, but with defensive issues and errors from experienced players like Souttar, the team faces a long road ahead in their pursuit of another title.
