There’s growing speculation surrounding the future of Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga.
Newcastle United have submitted a £55 million bid for Anthony Elanga, but it seems Nottingham Forest feel the offer still falls slightly short of their valuation. Since the bid was made, there has been little progress, and Newcastle fans are growing increasingly impatient. Some have even tracked flights and pointed out Elanga’s holiday companion wearing a Newcastle shirt, underlining their eagerness for a new signing.
Forest, meanwhile, are preparing for the possibility of Elanga’s departure, with pre-season training starting today. However, Elanga won’t be present. This is not linked to the transfer rumours but rather due to Forest granting extended leave to players who were involved in international duty after the season ended. Only those who’ve been resting since the Chelsea game are expected back today.
Journalist Dominic Scurr has confirmed that Elanga is among those given extra time off, and he isn’t the only player missing from the first day of pre-season.
Still, the uncertainty around Elanga’s future needs to be resolved soon. If Forest are willing to sell, talks with Newcastle should accelerate. At the same time, Newcastle may need to stop hesitating near the £60m mark and meet Forest’s valuation.
Elanga has provided 32 goal contributions in two seasons since his £15 million move from Manchester United in 2022. Losing him would be a significant setback for Nuno Espirito Santo, and a replacement would need to come in quickly. If negotiations don’t progress soon, Forest might be better off keeping him and ending all talks.
