Why Fulham’s youth players are joining Chesterfield explained.

A recent article from the Derbyshire Times has shed light on why several of Fulham’s top academy players have been joining Chesterfield for senior experience over the past year.

The link appears to be former England international Kieron Dyer, now a first-team coach at Chesterfield. Dyer has maintained a strong relationship with Hayden Mullins, his former West Ham United teammate, who is currently in charge of Fulham’s under-21 side.

Thanks to that connection, Chesterfield has become a trusted destination for Fulham’s PL2 players needing first-team exposure. Last season saw defenders Harvey Araujo and Devan Tanton at the club, and this summer, Fulham U21s captain Matt Dibley-Dias has joined on loan.

Fulham fans have long been frustrated by the club’s hesitancy to loan out its top young talent, fearing they are stagnating in academy football. The proactive efforts of Dyer and Mullins are now being praised for helping those players gain valuable experience.
